One Mission

To what cause are you giving your life?

We live for causes. Some people's causes are evident. They might be printed clearly on their protest signs. Others toil quietly for decades in support of this or that endeavor. For many, comfort defines their cause. They work and work in order to have a ‘comfortable' life. But we were created for a cause far above every other cause. Ultimately, all of us are called to just one mission.

We believe that the Scriptures come back to four truths, or four essentials, when they talk about living life as God intended. The last of these essentials points us to the truth that if we are followers of Jesus, we have been called to call followers, just as Jesus did.

To be like Jesus is to be sent like Jesus. As Christ told the first disciples, "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." (John 20:21) Just as someone was involved in bringing God's message to you, so now God is sending his people as sent ones, to represent Jesus Christ in all of the circles in which they move: family, work, neighborhood, school, etc. This ‘sending' springs from the reality of Christ's "one mission": "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). Whether one goes to a foreign land or just down the street, the church's disciple-making mission is the same. Jesus says to his followers, "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16). Paul teaches us to be "wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." As we live our life for Christ, we look for ways to make him known: "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (I Peter 3:15) So as individuals and a local church family, we are all called "to advance the gospel" (Philippians 1:12) by proclaiming God's love through Jesus Christ in both "good news" and "good deeds".

We would love to tell you more about what it means to live life as God intended as a follower of Jesus Christ. Click the "contact us" link above to reach us or join us this Sunday.
